note 14540 added to function.mail.php

I am new to php but i need an email validator. I have 2 pages, (1) add.php (2) addentry.php -in which add.php goes to- i have tried a number of the validators but none seem to work I use 2 variables in the php $name and $email I noticed most have $email but some have $check also <pre> ? ones always give me an error and the ones with out do not work I am not sure if I am putting the script in the right place our am leaving something out please Help http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.mail.php
