I found this useful for building page templates
<?php
$xsl = new DOMDocument;
$xsl->load('layout.xsl');
// Set the <xsl:include> href attribute, the inner stylesheet to include in this layout
$xpath = new DomXPath($xsl);
$res = $xpath->query('//xsl:include');
$res->item(0)->setAttribute('href','page.xsl');
$xsl->save('media/xsl/layout.xsl');
?>
