Note Submitter: nate at ruggfamily dot com ---- @geompse On my benchmarks, mt_rand() is usually slightly faster than rand(). I tested this on 5.2.9 and 5.3.0 on Windows and 5.2.11 on Linux. But either way, the manual seems to be misleading when it states that the mt_rand() random number generator will generate numbers four times faster than rand().
