Try not to do any calculations with the output from number format. The thousands separator can
break the calculation:
<?php
$number = 1234.56;
echo $number;
?>
1234.56
<?php
$number = number_format($number, 2);
echo $number;
?>
1,234.56
<?php
echo $number * 100;
?>
100
