It was: preg_match_all ( '/.{73}([^=]{0,3})/', $string, $match ); // Rule #1 And should be: preg_match_all ( '/.{1,73}([^=]{0,3})/', $string, $match ); // Rule #1 Thanks for the alternative quoted-printable function, works like a charm!
