To Carlos (contact at phpmember dot com),
The mktime function is not needed for your example, here is a much easier way to find how many days
have passed since the beginning of the year:
<?php
$days_CountingToday = 1+date('z');
$days_NotCountingToday = date('z');
echo "$days_CountingToday days have passed (counting today)\n";
echo "or\n";
echo "$days_NotCountingToday have passed (not counting today)";
?>
