Regarding what monica at digitaldesignservices dot com has said.
I have office 2007 on windows xp sp3 with xampp and I've upgrade office to sp2 (latest version
as of today), but the script still hangs. Here's the script:

$filename = 'd:/document.doc';
$word = new COM("word.application") or die ("Could not initialise MS Word
object.");
$word->Documents->Open(realpath($filename));
// Extract content.
$content = (string) $word->ActiveDocument->Content;
echo $content;
$word->ActiveDocument->Close(false);
$word->Quit();
$word = null;
unset($word);
?>
After some debugging I found out that it hangs at $word->Documents->Open();
Can someone help me out?
