The pcre.backtrack_limit option (added in PHP 5.2) can trigger a NULL return, with no errors. The default pcre.backtrack_limit value is 100000. If you have a match that exceeds about half this limit it triggers a NULL response. e.g. My limit was at 100000 but 500500 triggered a NULL response. I'm not running unicode but I *guess* PCRE runs in utf-16. ---- Server IP: 69.147.83.197 Probable Submitter: 90.152.0.114 ---- Manual Page -- http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.preg-replace-callback.php Edit -- https://master.php.net/note/edit/98721 Del: integrated -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/98721/integrated Del: useless -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/98721/useless Del: bad code -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/98721/bad+code Del: spam -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/98721/spam Del: non-english -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/98721/non-english Del: in docs -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/98721/in+docs Del: other reasons-- https://master.php.net/note/delete/98721 Reject -- https://master.php.net/note/reject/98721 Search -- https://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php
