roONLYycoLOWERCAneSEjo at gmail dot com's alpha_blending function is brilliant. however, in my
opinion, the last line should say:
imagesetpixel($dest, $x + $dest_x, $y + $dest_y, $rgb_d);
instead of
imagesetpixel($dest, $x, $y, $rgb_d);
otherwhise, the overlay image always gets placed in the upper left corner, i.e. it correctly
calculates the overlay section's pixel color values, but places the resulting section in the
corner instead of the actual position within the target image.
