I think it's a very serious mistake to make ereg functions obsoleted. At least some
compatbility wrappers should be provided then, since preg_* functions can't be used as the
direct replacement of ereg functions, and I have huge projects with really monster regexps stored in
SQL, which I cannot modify (since other systems - not even PHP! - are using it), but I have to use
them in my PHP scripts. Since ereg functions were introduced years ago, we could hope that it's
"offical" and won't be "obsoleted" soon ... Now I need a solution to
convert ereg regexps into ones which can be "fed" with preg functions ... Not so funny :(
