translucent PNGs working before encountering these five lines from your code.
$im = imagecreatetruecolor($w, $h);
imagesavealpha($im, true);
$transparent = imagecolorallocatealpha($im, 0, 0, 0, 127);
imagefill($im, 0, 0, $transparent);
return $im;
