In addition to stefan at efectos dot nl's suggestion for defining the __DIR__ constant, I
suggest using dirname() as it is simpler, though afaik the difference in overhead is negligible.
eg,
if(!defined('__DIR__'))
define('__DIR__', dirname(__FILE__));
