I just tested browsercap and it identifies Internet Explorer 6.0 as Netscape 4.0.
This code..
$browser = get_browser();
echo $browser->parent . "< br>";
echo getenv('HTTP_USER_AGENT');
..prints out..
Netscape 4.0
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
