The best way to get a PHP readable timestamp from a mysql is to use UNIX_TIMESTAMP().
But make sure you use UNIX_TIMESTAMP(field) as field, otherwise it will get returned as
"UNIX_TIMESTAMP(field)".

Hope this helps!
