@realdreams: HTML always interprets a whitespace as one space. Except you use the
<pre>-Block-element so in your case:
echo "<pre>a\nbcd</pre>"
would give you the expected answer. but that has nothing to do with PHP but therefore with HTML
maybe you should start reading www.selfhtml.org ;).
