The result from is_numeric() is not very usable where i work.
Fx. is_numeric(' 2345') returns true, but in our world this is not a legal number, because
of the space.
And for some reason is_numeric('2345 ') and is_numeric(' 2345 ') returns false.
Here i would expect true, when ' 2345' also are true.
