If you are having problems with the preg_match_all put a P after the <?. For example the pattern
from ruudrp at live dot nl would change from
$pattern = '#(?<browser>' . join('|', $known) .
')[/ ]+(?<version>[0-9.|a-zA-Z.]*)#';
to this
$pattern = '#(?P<browser>' . join('|', $known) .
')[/ ]+(?P<version>[0-9.|a-zA-Z.]*)#';
