Lots of problems with conversions. Is UTF-8 even necessary? Wouldn't it be better for
everyone to learn English and type only ASCII ??
<chuckle>
Look at iconv() function, which offers a way to convert from 8859 and dreaded 1252 into UTF8 (or
else simply discard any untranslatable chars without error). A script to fixup text of unknown type
works well with iconv()
