To add to the Ubuntu 10.10 and previous version notes below --
apt-get install php5-dev
apt-get install libcurl3
apt-get install libmagic-dev
pecl install pecl_http
(libmagic package name changed, I guess)
Also note that it the autodetect in the build process said 'no' to enabling magic support,
but I answered 'yes' and it built (and runs) fine.
