Be aware of var_dump and var_export results:
<?php
$thumb_image = imagecreatetruecolor($thumb_width, $thumb_height);
echo "<p><pre>";
var_dump($thumb_image);
echo "</pre></p>";
echo "<p><pre>";
var_export($thumb_image);
echo "</pre></p>";
?>
Will give you:
resource(21) of type (gd)
NULL
So don't use only var_export() especially with those kind of functions.
