The note about the server alias is correct. Connecting from a Linux box to a MS SQL server machine
doesn't just happen because you have FreeTDS installed. To get it to work I used the
freetds.conf file located at
/usr/local/etc/freetds.conf
NOT
/usr/local/freetds/etc/freetds.conf
I used the setup:
[RemoteServer]
host = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
port = 1433
tds version = 7.0
Then in the PHP script called
mssql_connect("RemoteServer");
and it works!
BUT BE AWARE THAT THERE ARE TWO FREETDS.CONF FILES. IF ONE DOESN'T WORK FIND THE OTHER ONE.
