The variable
$_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']
has a trailing slash if configured so in httpd.conf
<VirtualHost *:8880>
DocumentRoot /var/www/live/current
...
has no slash
<VirtualHost *:8880>
DocumentRoot /var/www/live/current/
...
has trailing slash. at least that is true for my system.
