"As of PHP 5.3.0, you will get a warning saying that "call-time pass-by-reference" is deprecated when you use & in foo(&$a);." Actually it will be better the other way. To make sure foo($a) generates a warning whereas foo(&$a) does not. That way the user of the function will know that $a is going to be modified. Whether a variable will be modified should be obvious from the way the function is called without needing to look up the function definition. ---- Server IP: 69.147.83.197 Probable Submitter: 122.164.51.198 ---- Manual Page -- http://www.php.net/manual/en/language.references.pass.php Edit -- https://master.php.net/note/edit/108722 Del: integrated -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/108722/integrated Del: useless -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/108722/useless Del: bad code -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/108722/bad+code Del: spam -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/108722/spam Del: non-english -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/108722/non-english Del: in docs -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/108722/in+docs Del: other reasons-- https://master.php.net/note/delete/108722 Reject -- https://master.php.net/note/reject/108722 Search -- https://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php
