@jhooks: I believe that is expected, the query won't be executed unless you explicitly specify
the PGSQL_DML_EXEC option.
So, to execute and get the resulting query string, you have to combine both options. E.g:

$querystr = pg_update($db, 'post_log', $_POST, $data, PGSQL_DML_EXEC |
PGSQL_DML_STRING);
?>
