Note Submitter: carl at rusco dot com ---- as mentioned, a str_replace(' ', '', $string) does execute faster than Robin Leffmann's ereg_replace; however, the regular expression Leffmann supplied has the ability of also stripping out only -single- whitespaces as by his comment, whereas the blunt str_replace will simply sweep all of them away, single as cascading. one tool for each job.
