All I can do here is get my little bit in and let the reader decide for themself.
I learnt php around 6 years ago, designed websites with it, on the whole got on fine with it, and
never really took much notice of the whole ASP vs PHP debate.
It was only around 3 years ago I went for a web design job that required ASP.NET. I convinced them
at the interview I could learn ASP and do a good job with it. Got the job and in all honesty,
haven't used PHP since. I love the fact it's all tied in to the .net framework, something
the reviewer forgot to mention, i love the fact I have a choice of languages (even including php
itself), love the fact it's faster and nowadays more secure.
I sometimes get asked what's better ASP.NET vs PHP and all I can say is I've since
realised what a stupid question it is, ASP.NET is a framework, PHP is a language. You would be
better comparing PHP or C#.
If you like php, fine, stick with it, if you like .net, fine, stick with it. They're both good
and both do the job, though for me, having worked both, I prefer .NET
