Many people miss the note that since 5.3 this is installed by default. This means, if you are on
say, Ubuntu 12.04, and getting the errors that PHP cannot find libpcre.so or pcre.h, remove the
--with-pcre-regex=/dir from your configure string. Problem fixed.
