I have to deal with a legacy code, so no time rewrite and TEST all the code using SQLSRV instead of
mssql. Trying to set up the system on my laptop running windows vista I've got two big issues:
1. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get mssql working on php 5.3. When I got version 5.2
all came smoothly.
2. Then I was trapped in the unpleasant error message "Unicode data in a Unicode-only collation
or ntext data cannot be sent to clients using DB-Library (such as ISQL) or ODBC version 3.7 or
earlier". I worked around that installing FreeTDS. As others have said here the instructions
are available on moodle.org
