In fact, you don't need to inform the instance name in some cases.
When I inform my the instance name of my database server, it's throws an error:
<?php
//...
$serverName = "192.168.0.11\SVDCBD01";
//...
?>
Throws:
[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]SQL Server Network Interfaces: Error Locating
Server/Instance Specified [xFFFFFFFF].
And this works as well:
<?php
//...
$serverName = "192.168.0.11";
//...
?>
