Here's how I got comparison to work, pulling old date out of mysql data:
if((date("Y-m-d", mktime(0,0,0, date(m), date(d),date(Y)))) > ($record->closing))
{ blah blah...}
or you can do it this way :
if((date("Y-m-d", mktime(0,0,0, date(m), date(d),date(Y)))) > ((date("Y-m-d",
mktime(0,0,0, date(m), date(d)-7,date(Y))))
