Recently I experienced unexpected behaviour (for me) of file_get_contents('https://......')
Script gets images and file_get_contents('https://......') is in loop operator.
After several iterations Apache Server FastCGI timed out with Internal Server Error in ~30 seconds
even if max_execution_time was set to 0. With fopen() fread() pair result was the same.
In different environment Apache mod_php the same script worked without problems.
I solved this changing https requests to http
