presumably the parser could be extended to treat the : as a type of {
that is closed by the next 'endif' 'else' or 'elseif' that occurs at
the same nesting level.
and then it would be possible to use either 'elseif' or 'else if' and to mix
blocking styles.
however I can't immagine anyone considering this to be a good thing.
