I may have found an other solution to prevent IE 5.5 from caching:
echo "<!-- God save Microsoft - it keeps us thinking and praying! -->";
@header("Pragma: no-cache");
This causes normaly an error "header already sent" - but not with the @!
And all caching problems are gone...
