I've seen some people use PHP to format a date which was retrieved from a MySQL-database. Why?
Just query the db like this: "SELECT DATE_FORMAT(thefield, '%d-%m-%Y') FROM
thetable". The date is returned formatted. Check http://mysql.com/Manual_chapter/manual_Reference.html#Date_and_time_functions
