In response to holdoffhunger's notes about the CRC32 algorithm... yes, each implementation of this algorithm can have varying internal polynomial values. This means the algorithm can be included in different applications and have different polynomials to make it "its own" to ensure a unique value with a particular given input. Other algorithms will not give you different values depending on the application, but the CRC algorithmic outputs can (and most likely will) vary. Therefore, you should use the CRC algorithms if you're comparing inputs in the same environment or protocol, or at least program your own function where the polynomials are known between different environments. There's lots of reading material online if you wish to find out more about CRC polynomials. ---- Server IP: 72.52.91.14 Probable Submitter: 82.4.251.69 ---- Manual Page -- http://php.net/manual/en/function.hash-algos.php Edit -- https://master.php.net/note/edit/116396 Del: integrated -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/116396/integrated Del: useless -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/116396/useless Del: bad code -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/116396/bad+code Del: spam -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/116396/spam Del: non-english -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/116396/non-english Del: in docs -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/116396/in+docs Del: other reasons-- https://master.php.net/note/delete/116396 Reject -- https://master.php.net/note/reject/116396 Search -- https://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php
