I had the exact same problem, the way I resolved it is by reloading a page with 1 second interval
with
<META http-equiv="refresh"
content="1;url=sendmail.php?current=<?=($current+1)?>">
and that number goes up every time (i know, wrong coding here, but it's just an example)
ps: I think sendmail just can't handle getting more than 5 mails on the same second :-)
