If you put backquotes
... around the string echo will treat the string between the
backquotes as a shell command and execute it. The output of the command will be echoed.
Example:
<?php
echo "It is now ".date;
?>
will output something like:
It is now Tue Mar 1 09:42:11 CST 2016
