Be careful when using this function. On my system (linux, php4.06) if fails to recognize two digit
years such as 03/26/65. It works for 3/26/1965 so four digit years work fine.
This one bit me hard.
BTW anytime it does not recognize the date it the formatted output looks like this Dec-31-1969.
