THis is a gatcha I just found...
I have a statement like this:
<a href = "<?php echo $PHP_SELF ?>?variable=1">set a variable</a>
I left out the echo, so the PHP block was just <?PHP $PHP_SELF ?> which is still valid
syntactically, so got no errors. It just hung when I tried to do a session_register
("variable") with no indication as to the problem. Maybe I'm just dumb, but I spent a
week banging my head against the wall, recompiling PHP and Apache many times.
Hope this helps someone!
