It would be nice to mention that this function does send headers. It makes sense, but it is not
obvious. It took me a while to figure it out. I authenticate against a POP3 server, and set a cookie
if the authentication validates. At least I wanted to :) But since it sends a header to the server,
setcookie() won't work.
