I've been a programmer in assembler(8086), GwBasic, C (++), Java (bytecode), etc. for a long
time. I read in the present page :
"Strings
A string is series of characters, where a character is the same as a byte.
This means that PHP only supports a 256-character set, ...
.....
Details of the String Type
The string in PHP is implemented as an array of bytes and an integer indicating the length of the
buffer.
.....
"
Therefore I'm quite sure that a PHP string (a Zend string) IS NOT an array() i.e. a map with
keys and values, but an "array as in Pascal"(size indicated, no ending NULL char) !
Hey guys, may you clearly and precisely explain this here ?
Sincerely. Alain.
