PHP4 compiles fine for Apache 1.3.2x, but Apache cannot start, showing an error message like this:
<br>Cannot load /usr/lib/apache/libphp4.so into server: /usr/lib/apache/libphp4.so: undefined
symbol: uncompress

<p>The solution is to add: --with-zlib onto your
./configure line when building PHP4.
<p>Worked for me: Solaris 8-sparc, gcc 3.0, apache 1.3.22, mysql 3.23.43, php 4.0.6.
