I couldn't find a way to force a curl request to go to a particular IP address, but you can do
it with fsockopen:
<?php
$ip = '123.45.67.89';
$fp = fsockopen($ip, 80, $errno, $errstr, 5);
$result = '';
if (!$fp) {
echo "$errstr ($errno)<br />\n";
} else {
$out = "GET /path/to/the/file.ext HTTP/1.1\r\n";
$out .= "Host: www.exampl.com\r\n";
$out .= "Connection: Close\r\n\r\n";
fwrite($fp, $out);
while (!feof($fp)) {
$result .= fgets($fp, 128);
}
fclose($fp);
}
?>
I needed it to test the response from a set of servers behind a load balancer.
