There seems to be a problem with specifying empty strings for proxy_host and proxy_port options in
recent versions of PHP (from a version later than 5.2.9, and equal to or earlier than 5.2.11).
Supplying empty string values for proxy_host and proxy_port causes "host not found" type
errors: supplying NULL or FALSE works fine.
