The correct regexp would be
eregi("^[0-9a-z_]([-_.]?[0-9a-z])*@[0-9a-z]([-.]?[0-9a-z])*\\.[a-z]{2,3}$", $email,
$check)). After the first 0-9a-z, you forgot a _. Apparantly, you forgot that an email address can
begin with an underscore.
