Eval has no return value. It can not be used as a function, only as a procedure.
[Editor's Note: This statement is not always correct. If the code in the eval()'d block
contains a return statement that is not inside a function definition, eval() will return a value.
Example: var_dump (eval ('return TRUE;'));
