If you're working with the CGI version on Win32 you can use this script to set de DOCUMENT_ROOT
variable.
$path = str_replace('\\\\', '/', $PATH_TRANSLATED);
$pos = strpos($path, $SCRIPT_NAME);
$DOCUMENT_ROOT = substr($path,0,$pos);
