He's right about the CONSTANT curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER,1);
the result will be returned by the curl_exec command IE:
curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER,1);
$result = curl_exec ($ch);
