I have a dedicated RedHat 6.2 server at ViaVerio (formely DigitalNation). The problem wasn't
with missing complier options, but simply that the path to perl at the top of apxs was wrong.
Changed it to #!/usr/bin/perl and it works like a champ. :)
Just something to watch for...
