Using mb_encode_mimeheader() can avoid this bug. Here is an example.
---
$to = "mail@you.com"
$email = "dont@mail-me.com";
$name = "ÉÙñ(any Japanese Characters)";
$subject = "Is mime header OK with Japanese characters?";
$message = "Hope it's OK.";
// Encode Mime Header with Options
$name = mb_encode_mimeheader($name, "ISO-2022-JP", "Q");
// Set "FROM" address
$email = $name . " <" . $email . ">";
// Send email
$result = mb_send_mail($to, $subject, $message, "From:{$email}\r\n");
